You are indeed a very prolific author, would you like to briefly introduce us to your various publications?
Thanks for having me today! I first published M/M romance in 2006 and moved to writing full time in 2014. I write in a variety of subgenres. My five most popular books are Kidnapped by the Pirate, Wed to the Barbarian, Honeymoon for One, Beyond the Sea, and A Forbidden Rumspringa.

Did you always know you were going to write?
How did you realise that your path was LGBTQ+ literature? I worked as a copywriter in advertising and then corporate communications. I wrote fiction as a hobby, and it was writing fanfiction for the TV show Queer as Folk in the early 2000s that brought me to M/M romance. I came out as bisexual some years ago and I look forward to writing other queer romance pairings in the future.

Ho lavorato come copywriter nella pubblicità e poi nelle comunicazioni aziendali. Ho scritto narrativa per hobby ed è stata la scrittura di fanfiction per la serie televisiva Queer as Folk, nei primi anni 2000, a portarmi al romanzo M/M. Is there a book among those you have written that you are particularly fond of?
If yes, why?
It’s tough to choose, but Semper Fi has a special place in my heart since my late father helped me with the WWII research.

Your MM novels span different genres and settings. Is there a genre or trope you particularly love to write?
I love them all! That’s why I was never able to “choose a lane” and write only those tropes or genres.

MM romance has gained more and more visibility in recent years. How do you think the landscape of LGBTQ+ literature has changed since you started writing?
Oh, it’s changed massively since the early days of the gay romance genre in the early 2000s. Back then, there were hardly any of us, and ebooks only existed as PDFs people read on their computers or printed out. Kobo and Kindle ereaders changed that, and of course the genre has exploded in recent years. There’s so many more authors, books, and readers. Now, there’s a lot more representation of bisexuality, trans/nonbinary characters, and more racial diversity as well. And we still need more!

È cambiato moltissimo rispetto agli inizi del genere gay romance, nei primi anni 2000. All'epoca non c'era quasi nessuno di noi, e gli ebook esistevano solo come PDF che la gente leggeva sul computer o stampava. Kobo e gli ereader Kindle hanno cambiato le cose, e naturalmente il genere è esploso negli ultimi anni. Ci sono molti più autori, libri e lettori. Ora c'è una maggiore rappresentazione della bisessualità, dei personaggi trans/non-binari e anche una maggiore diversità razziale. E ne abbiamo ancora bisogno!
What is the biggest challenge in your opinion in creating an authentic
and engaging love story?
Making readers care about what happens to the characters and making the characters relatable. Even if it’s an assassin, he has to be relatable.
Qual è la sfida più grande, secondo te, nel creare una storia d'amore autentica e coinvolgente?
Far sì che i lettori si interessino a ciò che accade ai personaggi e che questi ultimi siano comprensibili. Anche se si tratta di un assassino, deve essere comprensibile.
Can you give us some hints about your next projects?
I’m working on more books in the Lifeguards of Barking Beach series that started with Flash Rip. I’m loving going back to Australia with these sexy lifeguards.

Taking long, hot showers and letting my mind wander. I come up with some of my best ideas in the shower!

We always close interviews in the same way: what is your favourite book?
It’s hard to pick only one, but for M/M romance, my favourite series is Joanna Chambers’s Enlightenment Trilogy. It’s a wonderful emotional slow burn that I reread (and relisten to) annually.

At Casa Sterne we read ‘Only One Bed’ perfect for the Christmas season which intersperses as a novella in the ‘Love on the Ice’ series as the second volume. The first is ‘Kiss and Cry’ which I loved and the third ‘The Next Competitor’ I also loved. The last volume in the series has not yet been translated into Italian but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
